All’s Clear!
All’s Clear!
2 Corinthians 4
“Therefore, since we have this ministry (announcing the New Covenant) as we have received mercy, WE DO NOT LOSE HEART, but we have renounced the things hidden because of shame, not walking in craftiness or adulterating the Word of God.”
“Therefore, WE DO NOT LOSE HEART though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.”
Sticks and stones …
In this section of the book Paul returns to the attacks being forged against him. First, in verse 1 are the verbal attacks of the false teachers against his motives and intent. Paul affirms he has nothing to hide! He is truthful, without shame and has a clear conscience. The verbal attacks are hurtful but what is especially hurtful is that some of his beloved disciples were beginning to believe the slanders. These attacks hurt, but his own conscience affirms the truth and he is determined, he will not lose heart.
A mighty force
The power of a clear conscience is a mighty force. It provides us confidence, self-assurance and peace with God. It allows us to hold our head high, shoulders back, maintain direct eye contact with others and maintain a silent confidence that can face any situation. But a clear conscience doesn’t happen without a fierce commitment to always being truthful, doing what is right and doing it consistently in good times and in bad.
Be the guardian of our souls
Lord, may we keep You in the forefront of our minds today; making decisions and speaking the truth with You as our guide and with your power unleashed as the guardian of our souls. We need your help to win the battle for our minds and our conscience. May we strengthen our conscience today, by your grace. We know You are there for us. Keep us close. Amen
