Psalms 139
I’m taking a break from my regular reading and soaking in Psalms 139. God is all knowing. Yes, God obviously knows everything about everything, but here the emphasis of David is that God knows everything about ME. Lord, you not only know every action and every move I make, you know my thoughts, my motives and intentions behind them all. Verse 4 says, “behold, o Lord, YOU KNOW IT ALL.”
I can’t hide. I can’t run. I can’t take a break from You or avoid Your involvement in my life. There’s no “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” with you. I can’t compartmentalize my life with You. It goes way beyond just knowledge as awareness. God is “intimately acquainted with all my ways,” v3b. In reading Ps 139:1-18, it seems as if there are only two beings in all of creation: God and David. God does not share His attention with His followers in a “finite” way as if there only so much of Him to go around. No. Instead, Lord, you never turn away from me; you are never distracted or bored. There is no A.D.D. in You. Your thoughts toward me are constant, consistent and continual with no lapse, no peak and no decline. Lord, your knowledge of me and your attention toward me is not only your awareness but in your knowledge of me YOU LEAD ME AND GUIDE MY EVERY STEP. Consider verse 5: “You have enclosed me behind and before and laid your hand upon me”. Father God, thank you for your care, your attention and intimacy. May I think of you more, listen to you more, be aware of you more, enjoy intimacy with your more – love you more! Amen!
Stunning
Continuing to pray through Ps 139 – these are stunning realities of God. You really should take some time to read this Psalm. “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it.” The attributes of both Omniscience and Omnipresence leads David to proclaim the security of God’s hand upon him. “Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me.”
Thank you Lord! There is peace in knowing that you are GOD and all Your attributes are directed toward me personally. This is too wonderful to absorb. But it brings peace, security and confidence in your plans and your will for me and for my loved ones! “Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well.” Amen!
