Who Do I listen to?
I Samuel 23
Who do I listen to?
David is in hiding. He has about 600 men who serve him as his soldiers and comrades. David is told that the Jewish city of Keila is under attack. No Jewish city is safe from the relentless Philistines. V2 says “So David inquired of the Lord saying, ‘shall I go and attack these Philistines?” God said “go.” My study Bible notes tell me that such inquirers were made using the sacred lots, Uris and Thummin, stored in the priestly ephod that Abiather (David’s traveling priest) had brought to David. David told his men and they strongly advised against attacking. So, David inquired of the Lord again and God said “arise go down to Keilah, for I will give the Philistines into your hand.” David took the guidance of the Lord and he and his men defeated the Philistines and delivered the inhabitants of Keilah.
Lead me in Your truth
This reveals a pattern of action in David which was never in Saul. To seek the Lord; to inquirer of the Lord; to ask of the Lord and OBEY. Lord, may I follow David’s example. May I whisper for your guidance throughout the day. May I listen and obey as you lead and guide me. David indicates his heart to seek You in Psalms 25:1-5, “To You, my Lord, I lift up my soul. O my God, in You I trust, do not let me be ashamed; do not let my enemies exult over me. Indeed, none of those who wait for you will be ashamed…make me know Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation, for You I wait all the day.” Amen.
